  Castle of Karytaina

The castle of Karytaina is a medieval Frankish castle of great historical importance. Thanks to its strategic location between the mountains it is a natural fortress and has been one of the most important fortresses in the Peloponnese during the Frankokratia and also during the Greek revolution against the Turks in 1821. The outer side of the castle is well-preserved, although the inside is in ruins. However, a preservation project is already in progress. The castle is easily accessible through a well-preserver path from the central square of Karytaina.
