Thasos Island

Thasos Island is located in northern Greece, opposite the coasts of Eastern Macedonia. The capital of the island is called Limenas. The island is full of vegetation and its economy is based on timber, marble mining, tourism, oil, olives, honey etc. olive, pine and plane trees, ashes, cedars, dogwoods and many more common and wild trees are all over the small flatlands and the mountains of the island. Thasos is a mountainous island and its highest summit is Psario or Ypsarion (1203m). However, most parts of the island are accessible thanks to the country roads. Since the ancient years, Thasos was well known for its rich subsoil, which is full of iron, gold and pure white marble. The island has many beaches and the springs at Panaghia of Thasos are also noteworthy.
