Aghios Nikolaos

Aghios Nikolaos is the capital city of the district of Lasithi on the north coast of Crete, on the west of the Merabello Bay.

The city is built on hills and therefore many steps and stairs are characteristic of the town. There is a park with pine trees and beach trees over the Lake offering a panoramic view of the city. In the Municipal Marina, sailing races take place every year. Spinalonga is the island where many lepers drew their last breath. Now some of their houses and other buildings are preserved as historical sites and there are also many agencies that can get tourists on Spinalonga by boat from Elouda. In the Kitroplatia Square there is a beach spot, from where you can follow a paved street towards the Marina.
